Being Sick

A lot of people in Slovakia take a whole day off when they e.g. go to the dentist. You have several days a year allocated for doctors visit and even if the doctor visit takes an hour, they will use 8 from the fund, so get 7 hours free.

This makes sense for factory jobs, where you cannot easily manage shifts in variable schedules. But if you are an office worker, or, even better, remote or home office worker, what is the justification here?

The same goes for being a little sick, e.g. having a runny nose. If you work at the factory, maybe you do not want to make everyone else sick (and working physically is hard with runny nose). But sitting at home in front of a screen (especially when the alternative to not working is the same)? What is the justification for a home office worked to not work with a runny nose?

We are still using work rules created by unions for factory workers to cover completely different kind of jobs and work. The same goes for 8-hour work day or 5-day work week.

In reality, office workers do not work as the law imagines it anymore. So do not hide behind the law when discussing office jobs.
