A lot of people want to tell others how to live, what to wear, what to do base on their so-called principles. This is not a good way to live a life.
I actually like principles. I have a lot of them that I try to keep up. But that is the thing about principles. They should first serve you as a guide to follow your values. They should not be used to control others.
I often make fun of people not following my principles in private or even when I talk with them if we are close. But I would never presume to push my principles on them. I can talk about them, make them sound as good idea, but they are still mine.
Some are trivial, like I wear shoes at office. But I would never enforce as a boss that you cannot be in slippers (unless you are visiting a customer – I think that is just common sense).
Some are more deep, like I do not cheat on my wife, but I have plenty of friends who do that, and I get their point of view. I disagree, but we are still friends and I can talk to them about it just fine.
What really pisses me off are people talking about principles which they do not hold up to.
