The worst thing about the modern world is, that you have to constantly prove yourself. In the past, you lived in a small community, usually had one job your entire life, and so it was not difficult to establish credibility. Everyone knew you, knew your work and knew how to deal with you.
It is demanding proving yourself all over again when you switch school, job or move. Nobody knows you, so you need to show them who you are, which is not easy.
The best thing about the modern world is, that this is possible. Especially if you fuck up or get stuck. You can simply switch and start all over again, without the past burdening you.
