Handmaid’s Tale was written in 1985. The author was worried about women’s rights and where USA is heading.
It was shot as a movie in 1990s, because the worries were still there.
And then again in 2017 as a TV Series, because of what was and is happening.
In the end, thing got overall better.
The same trend can be seen with technology dystopian futures, enviromental futures and most negative depictions of the future.
Does not mean we should not worry.
Just that if we work on the future being better, it will.
Do not despair.
